South Indian Style Pepper Chicken Fry is the spicy peppery coated masala it’s simple and tasty to the core. It has a whole lot of flavors and aroma that goes extremely well with anything.

How do you make pepper chicken dry?

  • Heat up oil, add seasonings, add in onions, ginger garlic paste, tomatoes and cook them until everything turns mushy.
  • Add in chicken, freshly ground pepper powder, turmeric powder, salt.
  • Cover and cook the chicken for 20 mins until the chicken is cooked.

FAQ:

Any other oil is recommended to make pepper chicken?

  • Similarly like gingerly oil, you can also make this recipe peanut oil, sunflower oil or vegetable oil.

What part of cut is best to make pepper chicken?

  • You can certainly make this recipe with any part of chicken like tenderloin, thigh, drumstick, whole wings, breast fillet.

Variations:

  • You can add 1 tsp of chili powder along with pepper powder to make it very spicy.
    Grind pepper powder+ 1 tsp of fennel seeds to make fine powder- this gives you more flavor.
  • You Follow the same method to make in vegetables like mushroom, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, cottage cheese.

How do you store leftovers?

  • Place the leftover in the fridge for 2 to 3 days in an air-tight container.
  • To Re-heat: Re-heat the leftover for 5 to 7 mins over the medium heat.

How do you serve pepper chicken?

This pepper chicken can be best Served with steam rice, Indian bread or starter. 

How to make Pepper chicken with step by step pictures:

Heat up gingerly oil, add mustards seeds and dry red chillies.

Add curryleaves,Saute for 2 to 3 seconds, once it splutters,

Add chopped onions and salt. Saute for 2 to 3 mins over a medium heat, until the onions are translucent.

Add ginger garlic paste. saute until the raw smell of the Gingergarlic paste leaves off. It would take 2 to 3 mins.

Cover and cook for 2 to 3 mins till the tomato turns mushy.

Once the onion and tomato are cooked well, add pepper powder and turmeric powder.

Keep sauting for 2 mins

Cover and cook for 12 to 15mins (stirring occasionally) over a medium flame. Pepper chicken is ready to be served.

Description

Madurai Pepper Chicken – South Indian Style Pepper Chicken Fry is the spicy peppery coated masala fry, it’s simple and tasty to the core. It has a whole lot of flavors and aroma that goes extremely well with anything.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 Gram Chicken
  • 3 Onion (medium size)
  • 1 Tomato (big size)
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 3 tbsp Dry red chilli
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1.5 tsp Pepper powder (use according to ur spice level)
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt- to taste.
  • 1 Bunch Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 3 tsp Gingelly
  • 1 sprig curry leaves

Instructions

  1. In a fry pan, add gingelly oil, once it heats up add the mustard seeds and dry chilli.
  2. Add curry leaves. let it splutter. Add onions and fry till the onions are translucent,and add the gingergarlic paste and fry till the raw smell leaves off.
  3. Add in tomatoes and sauté it for sometime.
  4. Once it is sautéed well, add the pepper powder and turmeric powder, stir occasionally, make sure do not burn, sprinkle some water if needed.
  5. Now add the chicken, sauté for 3 mins,cover and cook for 10 to 12mins
  6. Cook until you get the desired consistency.
  7. Sprinkle some coriander leaves or curry leaves.
  8. Serve hot with rice or roti.

  1. Nice recipe! I saw in the pictures when to add the tomatoes since they are missing in the text, but I’m still unsure of when and how to add the curry leaves?

    1. Hello!! Thank u for notifying me,updated now.Add the tomatoes after adding the ginger garlic paste. Sprinkle some curry leaves on top once the recipe is done.
