How to make Easy Homemade Flour Tortillas:

Ingredients to make flour tortillas are taken in small bowl
Gather all the ingredients to make flour tortillas
Flours are taken in a glass mixing bowl
Combine Wheatflour and All-purpose flour in a mixing bowl

Baking soda and salt are added to the flour

Add softened Butter

Mix the softened butter in the flour using your fingertips, until it looks crumbly

Make a very soft dough. cover with a damp cloth and keep aside for 10 to 15 mins.

Tips to make Flour Tortillas recipe:

You can use stand mixer using the dough hook for mixing the flour, then work on the lightly floured surface to get a soft dough.
Let the dough rest for 10 to 15 mins before you make tortillas.
Make Tortillas thin to get soft, pliable flour tortillas.
Cook the tortillas just for few seconds to get some nice bubbles or small brown spots.

1. Can I use lard for this recipe?

Yes! You can use Lard.
Traditionally lard is used for making tortillas for a soft texture. However it the texture is soft with butter as well.

2. How do you keep Flour tortillas warm for a buffet?

Wrap your tortillas in double wrap in aluminum foil or damp bowl. Keep them in the oven and set at a low temperature. This way tortillas are pretty warm without direct heat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup All Purpose flour
  • 2 tbs Butter
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Warm water

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine wheat flour, all purpose flour, salt and baking soda. Give a quick mix.
  2. Add warm water, very little by little to make a soft dough.
  3. Rest for 5 mins.
  4. Make a lemon sized ball, coat each ball with flour
  5. Roll each dough piece to a rough circle by dusting the work surface.
  6. Heat up skillet and place the tortillas and allow to cook for 1 minute until you see a brown spots appears.
  7. Flip and cook for 10 to 15 secs.
  8. Serve warm or allow to use for later use.
