What is Samba Rava Made of:

Broken wheat / Samba Godhumai/ Dalia it is made of crushing whole wheat kernels to smaller pieces.Loaded with lots of Nutrition.

Is Samba Rava good for health:

Broken wheat Upma rich in iron, magnesium, vitamin E,Vitamin B and has lots of healthy benefits.It lowers the risk of cholesterol and helps in weightloss.

How to cook Broken wheat Upma /Samba Godhumai Upma in pressure cooker?

  • Heat up oil in pressure cooker, add in the seasoning channa dal, mustard seeds, Urdu dal. Let it sizzle for seconds.
  • Add green chillies, ginger, onion, carrot and tomato. Saute the ingredients to combine well.
  • Add some fresh coriander leaves and curry leaves. Quick stir for a minute.
  • Add water, salt. Bring to boil for couple of minutes.
  • Now, pour in broken wheat /samba godhumai Rava. Gently give a stir.
  • Pressure cook  for 2 whistles.

What are the vegetables can be added?

Vegetables like potato, peas, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli, beans can be added.

Broken Wheat Upma/samba Rava upma water ratio

1 cup of Broken wheat = 2 cups of water + 1/4 cup of water (for the vegetables)

How do you serve Samba Rava upma/Broken wheat Upma?

It can be served with coconut chutney or any others chutneys.

Or simply  sprinkle some sugar.

How to make Broken Wheat Upma with Step By step pictures:

These all the ingredients to make Samba Rava Upma
oil is heated up in deep pot
Heat up oil in pressure cooker
a small bowl of channa dal, mustard seeds and urud dal is being added to deep pot
Add all the seasoning mustard seeds, channa dal and Urud dal
channa dal and mustard seeds is being sizzled in oil in deep pot
Saute just for few seconds to a light golden colour
Greenchilies and ginger is being added in oil in deep pot
Add Greenchillies and Ginger
finely chopped carrot and sliced onions are being added to oil in deep pot
Add onions and carrot and saute for a minute
tomatoes are added to oil in deep pot
Add tomato
onions, tomato and green chilli are sauted in deep pot
Saute well for 3 to 4 mins.

Add chopped coriander leaves and curry leaves
onion and tomato are sauted well in deep pot
Onion and tomatos are sauted well
water is being added to the cooked onions in deep pot
Add water, salt 
broken wheat is being added to water that boils in deep pot
Now add broken wheat
mixed well using ladle
Add some water, and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Broken wheat upma is ready to be served.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs gingelly oil
  • 1 cup Broken wheat
  • 1 tsp channa dal
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urud dal
  • 1 tsp asafetida
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbs corinder leaves

Instructions
